The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) gives students a chance to earn credit for general introductory course work. This allows qualifying students to focus on more advanced classes and save money on tuition. The UTC offers CLEP tests in more than 30 areas of study.
To register or for information on CLEP testing, visit College Board. You'll register and pay for your exam (except for admin fee) and then schedule your CLEP exam here:
For CSU's CLEP policies, visit the CLEP Exam Equivalencies page.
The CLEP costs $80 per test (price set and subject to chage by College Board). There is also a $20 administration fee due before testing. The $20 administration fee must be cash or check only.
The CLEP takes about 2 hours to complete.
CSU Challenge Exam
If you would like to earn credit and test out of a class for which no CLEP is offered, you may contact the course instructor and request a Challenge exam. A Challenge exam is similar to the CLEP, except the test is written by the particular department or instructor.
First, download the Challenge form and get the required signatures. Then bring the form to the UTC. You will schedule and take your exam through your department.
Note: Departments are not required to grant a Challenge exam.
Placement exams are available for Math and Composition. To learn more about these tests, visit the Center for Advising and Student Achievement.
